JOE OSHEROFF

Joe has been fascinated with masks and mask theatre since he was introduced to it by June Kemp, a brilliant movement instructor he had the pleasure of studying with in London in 1991.  A proponent of devised work and theatrical mask performance, Joe was the founder and artistic director of Homunculus Mask Theater in New York City, for which he has received three New York Innovative Theatre Awards (Mask Design, Movement, and Direction).  He is particularly interested in advancing the form and exploring the theatrical intersections of mask play, rock music, and dance.  In this gallery, you can view some of Joe's designs, all of which were created for specific theatrical performances, either of his own devising or as commisisons from other theatre companies.  For more information on each mask, please click on the image for a description.
